Alternative rock and metal band Block of Flats release their new single, “What’s Your Excuse?”. Taking a step away from traditional rock and metal clichés, the song was created in collaboration with Blind Channel’s Alex Mattson and Niko Moilanen, who also worked with the band on their previous single, “I Stand Below It All.” The production also features Jonas Olsson and Rami Nykänen.
“‘What’s Your Excuse?’ feels really fresh to us because we intentionally left out some of the typical rock and metal clichés without losing the song’s rock and metal DNA. The message also hits close to home for me: sometimes you just need that final push to stop making excuses and do what you actually want to do. I hope the song can give that same push to other people. Working with Blind Channel’s Aleksi Mattson and Niko Moilanen felt really natural, while Rami Nykänen and Jonas Olsson brought their own strengths to the production.”

Next year, Block of Flats will join Blind Channel’s Painstream Tour across Europe and the UK. For the band, the tour is a natural continuation of their first steps towards international growth in recent years. In 2025, Block of Flats toured Europe with The Rasmus and US band The Funeral Portrait.
“In February 2027, we’ll join Blind Channel as special guests on their Painstream Tour across Europe and the UK. Last year we toured Europe with The Rasmus and the American band The Funeral Portrait, so this feels like the perfect continuation, especially with Central Europe being an important market for us. We already know the guys in Blind Channel, both bands are moving in a heavier direction, and we’re building our live show to be heavier and darker for this tour.”
In September, Block of Flats announced that bassist Kauri Koponen would be leaving the band after almost ten years together. The departure was amicable and mutually agreed upon. The band will continue as a three-piece for the time being but welcome open applications via the band’s email.
